Pluto even gets to be part of the action scene in the climax on the lifeboat. That apart he has none other than Mr Aamir Khan as his voice for dialogues penned by the legend Javed Akhtar Saab! He brings in the high points for most of major scenes and is weaved from start to finish in to the romance of the other lead characters. He gets to go on the exotic cruise within which most of the movie is based.

In the immediate scene that follows, Anupam Kher is having to pay the entire lot of actors he hired as his entourage including the poms. Now this is really saying a lot to Pluto’s fraternity – does it mean the fabled times of Moti of Teri Meherbaniyan (played by Brownie) when they carried an entire movie on their shoulders are now to return? Or like the Golden ManMohan Desai era where movies often switched to dog mode when humans were a bit ‘held up’ by the villains?Ĭould this also mean that the outrageous times in films when it was seen like the worst thing for humans to be like dogs are over- (be it Dharam Paaji’s angered iconic refrain to villains, or Danny’s famous dialogue in Ghatak describing Amrish Puri to Sunny Paaji or even Amrish Puri himself in Shahenshah, speaking of how barking black dogs inside make him a bad person!) Not taking away from some greatest ever performances by others, a lot of folks say that Pluto Mehra is the one of the best characters in the movie.
And I’m sure the success of the movie brings a smile to Anushka’s lips after Bombay Velvet. Even other supporting characters roles are very well etched – be it the graceful Shefali Shah, hypochondriac Zarina Wahab or the vexatious husband played by Rahul Bose. Anil Kapoor ofcourse is superb, energetic and shows us a completely new side of his talent powerhouse. Would say this is one of Ranveer’s best performances after his debut. Priyanka Chopra is outstanding and very convincing in her role. All lead actors have done a fantastic job.
DDD is a well made movie – a fine script and exceptional direction.
